OBX 2020 - North Hatteras

Wednesday morning, October 7th and I wake up to Mark cooking birthday cinnamon rolls and bacon for Maggie's birthday.

We all sang her Happy Birthday!

It was supposed to be the best/warmest weather all week so we chose to stay in and go to the beach and pool today.

They braved the still very cold water.

Another kite!  This one struggled staying up.

and this little guy did too!  Nap time!

Welp, this is the second broken chair of the trip.  We needed new ones anyway!

Maggie and I were left to ourselves on the beach after lunch time.  The guys took the boys to the pool.  Our last full day of beach time.

Thursday morning I was up at the butt crack of dawn again but was able to witness the most beautiful
sunrise.  It's amazing to think about how you are as far east of the US that you can possibly go.  You are the first person to see the sunrise that day. God is Good!

These pictures just don't do it justice as how big and beautiful it actually was.

I swear he wrestles a wild animal in his sleep every night!

Today we decided to tour around North Hatteras area: Corolla, Duck, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head.  We drove all the way North to Corolla and worked our way down.  First stop was the Currituck Lighthouse.

I was so excited when I saw we could climb it!

You can't see it but there are bees/wasps all over the place.  The tour guide at the bottom said that they are wired so that when it is time to mate they find the highest area to meet.  It just so happens that this is the tallest building in the area.

Next stop was Kill Devil Hills area where we stopped to see the Wright Brothers Museum.

Walking the area where the first flight took place.  Each stone shows how far each attempt made it

I will say that the North is way more touristy than the South.  I was shocked to see how much more that was there compared to the South part of Hatteras.  For dinner we found this place called Goombays.  It looked like it had a cool atmosphere and yummy cocktails!

The kids even had fun drink choices!  Reid had a shark attack which was practically a Shirley Temple.

Ryan found some crab legs!

Can't go wrong with key lime pie and a souvenir cup!

By now when we told the boys we were going to another lighthouse you would hear moaning and groaning... "not ANOTHER lighthouse!?!?"  Last lighthouse on the trip was this guy, Bodie Island Lighthouse.  This lighthouse is located on the Roanoke Sound side of the island just south of Nags Head.  We got there too late to climb or really visit it at all as the sun was setting.

But we got to see it work and it was beautiful!
